Why is the Project Needed?
County Road 26 and County Road 63 traverses through one of the largest undeveloped areas adjacent to the I-494/I-694 beltway and more residential and commercial development is underway within the cities of Eagan and Inver Grove Heights. Currently, County Roads 26 and 63 are two-lane rural roadways that do not meet current safety design standards and lack multi-modal infrastructure, which results in a significant gap in the regional and local trail network.
The County Road 26 and County Road 63 Improvement Project includes expanding County Road 26 from the existing two-lane rural highway to a four-lane divided highway as well as the construction of a new alignment of County Road 63 from Amana Trail north to 65th Street over to the existing County Road 63 (Argenta Trail). Other improvements include access management of driveways and city streets, a new roundabout at the intersection of County Roads 26 and 63, multi-use trails along both side of the roadway, paved shoulders, stormwater infrastructure (i.e. curb and gutter), and a new underpass serving the Mendota-Lebanon Greenway.
